Getting Started

August 30th, 2009 will go down in history as the opening day of Mr. Crowley's Classroom blog. We will share knowledge and information as we progress through the virtual world of learning. I'm excited to begin, and also a bit apprehensive as an undertaking like this will require constant care and feeding.
I look forward to working with you all as we tackle the hard topics, and work towards an excellent source for routine and advanced system administration skills and procedures.

  1. Ok, here we go. Summarizing what we have learned to date (Week 1 for starters).

    1. I was familiar with Blogs, Wikipedia (wikis), and Podcasts (YouTube for example) from my earlier life, pre-Graduate school. What I didn't know was how they could be used for educational purposes.
    2. Blogs can be a great way to stimulate the students in your class to join into what they are and should be learning. By leading them down the Blogspot pathway, they can work at their own pace and offer new and share old work (papers or videos) with the class/world.
    3. Wikipedia is a valuable source of information that is readily available on the Internet (especially after a search reveals a million results). Read/Write Web at its best!
    4. Podcasts (most famous site for me is YouTube) can also be a valuable source of information, and after searching the iTunes.Berkeley site, I was amazed at what was available for the students. I also have my initial attempt at a YouTube video (an introduction) that I will share to anyone that is interested.
    5. The 2009 Horizon Report was pretty thorough, but did leave some room for improvement by the board members (heavy with educators, so more tekkies are needed for best results). Who da thunk that Mobile Devices would have been the Number #1 item for their report!
